UrinoVet®Cat is used in cats to support the normal functions of the urinary tract.
- patients suffering from, suspected of and prone to feline urinary tract disease (FLUTD, formerly known as SUK – urological syndrome in cats), involving idiopathic bladder inflammation and urinary calculus;
- patients suffering from, suspected of and prone to urinary tract infections such as pyelonephritis, bladder infection and urethritis;
- in all patients treated for urinary calculus, irrespective of the type of stones (urates, struvites and oxalates) and following the surgical removal of calculi,
- protectively, in patients after the procedure of catheterisation.
extract of cranberry (Vaccinum macrocarpon)
extract of melissa (Melissa officinalis)
extract of parsley (Petroselinum savitum)
It is recommended to administer 1 capsule daily.
Twist Off capsules should be cut or twisted and its contents mixed with food.
The animal should be provided with access to fresh water at all times.
The mechanism of action
Extract of cranberry (Vaccinum macrocarpon) contains pro-antocyanidin (PAC A2, PAC B2,3-PAC trimers),which by binding to the surface receptors of pathogens activates fimbriae and adhesins on their surface. Lack of fimbrial adherence prevents the bacteria from adhering to the epithelial cells of the urinary tract. This adhesive action of cranberry makes it difficult for the bacteria causing chronic urinary tract infections, e.g. Escherichia coli to colonize the bladder.
The extract of parsley has diuretic properties. The stimulation of water removal is beneficial for dogs with false pregnancy as it reduces the swelling of mammary glands and impedes lactation. Parsley has strong diuretic properties as it reduces the activity of Na+/K+ATPase renal cortex and medulla. Such inhibition reduces the re-absorption of Na+ to cells, reduces the secretion of K+, increases the concentration of K+ in intercellular spaces and impedes the passive flow of K+ through intercellular tight junctions.
Glucosamine is the precursor of glycosaminoglycans which are components of the extracellular matrix in the mucosa of lower urinary tract. Its administration reduces the permeability of the walls of the bladder for bacteria and toxins. The combination of the above components supports the normal functions of the urinary tract in a comprehensive and multi-dimensional way.
Extract of common valerian (Valeriana o_cinalis) has soothing and calming properties. This is beneficial for cats in which FLUTD and idiopathic bladder infection may have behavioural causes.
