Cats: 1 tablet
Dogs of up to 15 kg of body weight: 1 tablet
Dogs over 15 kg of body weight: 1 tablet per every 15 kg of body weight

Tablets can be given whole or crushed, before or during meals.
If the daily dosage involves more than 1 tablet, they may be given 2 or 3 times a day.
The animal should be provided with access to fresh water at all times.
For optimum results the product should be used from 1 to 3 months and in chronic cases for up to 6 months.

The mechanism of action

The product is recommended for dogs and cats with abnormal liver functions. The main substance is ornithine aspartate (as the source of ornithine and aspartate).
L-asparaginian L-ornityny to stabilna sól dwóch naturalnych endogennych L-aminokwasów: ornityny i kwasu asparaginowego. W sprzedaży występuje jako suplement diety podawany w celu obniżenia stężenia amoniaku we krwi. Prowadzi to do ustąpienia objawów encefalopatii wątrobowej związanej z marskością wątroby. Oba aminokwasy odgrywają ważną rolę w detoksykacji amoniaku oraz biosyntezie proliny i poliamin. Poliaminy uważane są za związki odgrywające kluczową rolę podczas syntezy DNA oraz replikacji komórkek, a także stymulacji regeneracji wątroby. Suplementacja ornityną zwiększa wytrzymałość blizny i odkładanie się kolagenu w modelach zwierzęcych. W badaniach in vitro, in vivo oraz w organach perfundowanych wykazano, że synteza moczniku z amoniaku jest ograniczona przez endogenną ornitynę, która może farmakologicznie pobudzać powstawanie mocznika w stopniu większym niż amoniak. Podawanie LOLA w wysokich dawkach redukuje wysokie stężenie amoniaku we krwi wywołane zarówno chlorkiem amonu, spożyciem białek, a także występjące jako powikłanie kliniczne w marskości wątroby. W stanach zdrowia oraz przy odpowiedniej diecie, L-ornitya i L-asparaginian są syntezowane de novo w dostatecznych ilościach. W stanach chorobowych, uszkodzeniu tkanek, niewydolności narządów, nadmiernym metabolizmie, w okresie wzrastania, ciąży lub braku enzymów cyklu mocznikowego, dieta powinna być suplementowana L-asparaginianem i L-ornityną.
Przegląd dostępnych badań wykazuje, że istnieją dowody, wynikające z fizjologii, uzasadnieniające stosowanie diety suplementowanej L-asparaginianem i L-ornityną, w zależności od fizjologicznego, metabolicznego, czy patologicznego stanu pacjenta. W stanach niedoboru ornityny, codzienna suplementacja LOLA powinna być wystarczająca do uzyskania odpowiedniego stężenia ornityny w tkankach, co zapobiega hiperamonemii poposiłkowej, a także do stymulacji regeneracji tkanek (Sikorska i wsp., 2010).
L-ornithine L-aspartate is a stable salt of two natural endogenic L-amino acids: ornithine and aspartic acid. It is available as a dietary supplement administered to lower the concentration of ammonia in blood. This leads to the lessening of the symptoms of hepatic encephalopathy related to cirrhosis. Both amino acids play a vital role in the detoxification of ammonia and biosynthesis of proline and polyamines. Polyamines are considered to play an important role in the synthesis of DNA and replication of cells and the regeneration of the liver. The supplementation with ornithine improves the resistance of the scar and the accumulation of collagen in animal models. In vivo and in vitro studies showed that the synthesis of urea from ammonia is limited by endogenic ornithine which may pharmacologically stimulate the formation of urea to a larger extent than ammonia.  The administration of LOLA in high doses reduces a high concentration of ammonia in blood caused by both ammonium chloride, the consumption of proteins and occuring as a clinical complication in liver cirrhosis. In normal situations and with a normal diet, L-ornithine and L-aspartate are de novo synthetized in sufficient amounts. In the cases of an illness, tissue damage, organ insufficiency, excessive metabolism, during growth, pregnancy or lack of the enzymes of the urea cycle, the diet should be supplemented with L-ornithine and L-aspartate.
In the light of the available studies it seems that there is physiological evidence regarding supplementing the diet with L-asparginate and L-ornithine, depending on the physiological, metabolic or pathological condition of the patient. In the cases of ornithine deficiency, the daily supplementation with LOLA should suffice to obtain the normal concentration level of ornithine in tissues, which prevents post-eating hyperammonemia and to stimulate the regeneration of tissues (Sikorska et al., 2010).
Extract of artichoke Cynarascolymus L. has been used in traditional medicine in hepatic problems. It is believed that both the extract and its components support the body in the battle with liver and bile duct diseases and accelerate the regeneration of the liver after its partial removal. Some of these properties are related to the antioxidative actions of artichoke extract and its components. These are mainly: flavones, flavanones, flavonols, coumarin and phenol acids in various amounts and combinations. The therapeutic effect is related to the phenol –related chemical structure of the components of the extract, which de-activates free radicals. Free radicals the process of the peroxidation of lipids play an important role in many pathological processes. C. Scolymus i salso used for its strong properties of inducing bile and increasing the concentration of fatty acids in bile. These therapeutic properties may be related with the content of mono- and di-caffeoylquinic acids, which have cholagogue and liver-protecting properties (Speroni et al., 2003).
